New Chemical Substance Requirements New chemical substances that have not been listed on the Korean Existing Chemicals Inventory (KECI) must go through necessary procedures before they are manufactured or\/and imported into Korea and put into the domestic market. Depending on annual quantity and related criteria in the relevant legislation, companies must file: Registration, or Notification procedures Before the substance can be placed on the Korean market. Existing Chemical Substance Requirements Depending on the annual volume of the existing chemical substance(s) and its\/Hers health hazards, the substance(s) may have to go through the registration process under K-REACH and companies importing\/manufacturing such substance(s) at 1 tonne or above in a year. Annual import or manufacturing volume Substance hazard profile Applicable regulatory requirements All substances which are imported or manufactured in quantities of 1 ton or above need to be evaluated by the company regarding the K-REACH registration requirements. For substance less than 100 Kg\/year, it only requires notification and does not need to go through hazard evaluation.\u202f\u00a0 PEC Substance Manufacturers or importers of a\u202fPEC (Priority Existing Chemicals) substance\u202fneed to register the substances\u00a0prior to\u202fmanufacture or import. Pre-registration of PEC substance is not possible as the transition period has already passed. Existing Substance For existing substances\u00a0above 1 Tonne Per Annum (TPA) (excluding exempt substances), they must be registered\u202fwithin given grace periods. Only companies that carried out pre-notification can be entitled to the grace periods.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The deadline for existing substance registration varies based on tonnage band. After the deadline for each tonnage band, existing substances within the tonnage band cannot be pre-registered, and it should be registered prior to placing the substances in Korea.\u00a0\u00a0 K-REACH established the phased registration of existing chemical substances by substance category on the basis of the annual amount of a substance and its hazard characteristics and established the respective registration deadline.
